Published on Substack September 25, 2026. Research dated September 24, 2026; market data through the September 24, 2026 close. This is a dated research record. Blockhaven's October 9, 2026 update lowered the rating to 2/5 Cautious and replaced the base-case scenario value; read it alongside this initiation.
In brief
Distribution is recovering: wholesale growth, North American improvement and the pullback from overexposed classic franchises point to a commercial reset that is working. Consumer demand is not yet proven, because wholesale shows what NIKE sells to retailers, not what customers buy at full price.
Reported FY2026 results flatter the underlying year: excluding the IEEPA tariff recovery, diluted earnings per share fall from $2.10 to $1.58 and EBIT margin from 8.3% to 6.2%. At the September 24, 2026 close, the stock traded at about 17.1x reported and 22.8x recovery-excluded FY2026 earnings. Greater China is the weakest link, with segment revenue 22.5% below FY2022. The dividend yield of about 4.6% was not fully covered: FY2026 free cash flow covered dividends 0.91x.
