BLOCKHAVEN

Methodology

What you can rely on as a reader.

What a reader can rely on in Blockhaven's work: where facts come from, how they are kept apart from interpretation, how fresh they are, and what happens when something cannot be verified.

In every piece

  • Attributable sources

Factual statements come from public sources and say which.

  • Facts apart from interpretation

You can always tell what is reported and what is Blockhaven's own read.

  • Dated, in Eastern Time

Every figure carries the time it is as of; market times are in Eastern Time.

  • Visible limitations

Gaps and uncertainty are stated, and a missing value is never shown as zero.

  • Corrections in the open

Material corrections to research and editions are recorded with a date.

How a claim is built
  1. 01 · Fact

A statement a public source supports, with the source and the date it is as of.

  2. 02 · Verification

Whether the fact was checked against an independent public source: verified, verified with delay, or partially verified.

  3. 03 · Blockhaven interpretation

What the fact suggests in context, written separately and labelled as interpretation.

  4. 04 · Limitation

What the read does not show: missing inputs, revisions to come, the edge of the evidence.

From data to publication

  1. 01

    Collect

Public and permitted data, collected with timestamps.

  2. 02

    Check

Automated checks against public sources; anything that fails is held back.

  3. 03

    Interpret

Analysis written apart from the facts and labelled as such.

  4. 04

    Publish

Released with sources, an as-of date and its methodology.

  5. 05

    Correct

Material errors in research and editions are corrected with the date.

The words we use

Blockhaven-derived
A measure or read that Blockhaven computes or writes itself from public data, as opposed to a figure reported by a source.
Data as of
The time the underlying data was current. It is not the time the page was published.
Verified against public data
The value was checked against an independent public source and agreed with it.
Verified with delay
It was checked against a public source that publishes later than the read, so the check reflects an earlier moment.
Partially verified
Some, but not all, of the inputs could be checked. The page says which.
Provisional
Not yet confirmed: a figure that may be revised by its source, or a company quarter reported in a release before the filing.

Sources and citations

Factual statements draw on public sources: regulator filings, company earnings releases, official calendars and data publications. Pages link to or name the source where it helps a reader check a claim.

Data used internally for research and quality checks is not republished. Checking a figure against a public source does not by itself grant the right to republish it, so data permissions are reviewed separately.

Facts and interpretation

Blockhaven separates what was reported from what it makes of it. Morning Intelligence marks claims as fact or as Blockhaven interpretation, Company Intelligence describes what a company reported without rating it, and research articles set interpretation apart in labelled callouts.

Data freshness and time

Each page leads with one primary date: an edition's date and cutoff for Morning Intelligence, the snapshot's as-of time for Macro, the latest reported quarter for a company, and the publication date for research.

Market-facing times are in Eastern Time, for example 8:30 AM ET. Delayed or out-of-date readings are marked as such, and a value that is not available is shown as unavailable, never as zero. Nothing is called live.

Macro

Blockhaven Macro is a daily read of market conditions: three condition scores on a 0 to 100 scale and the regime they point to. The scores describe conditions; they are not forecasts or probabilities, and Blockhaven does not publish hit rates or return claims for them.

Public market facts shown beside a Macro read are checked against independent public sources before publication. If checks cannot be completed the read is labelled partially verified or withheld. The Macro methodology page explains what each score measures.

Macro methodology

Morning Intelligence

Morning Intelligence is designed to publish before the open on U.S. trading days, at about 8:30 AM ET. Each edition states its data cutoff and reads the overnight tape, the movers that matter, the earnings ahead and the day's official catalysts.

A mover is tied to a catalyst only when a public record supports it, and the wording says the record came before the move, never that it caused it. When none is found, the edition says no verified catalyst was identified. If inputs are stale or checks fail, the edition is held rather than published, and an earlier edition is never presented as a new one.

Company Intelligence

Company pages read a company's SEC filings and its own earnings release for the latest reported quarter: growth, margins, profit, guidance and company-specific measures. Figures state their basis and the quarter they cover, and the sources are listed by date.

A quarter reported in an earnings release before the quarterly filing is available is marked as such. Company pages are descriptive research. They do not carry ratings, price targets or buy and sell recommendations.

Corrections and updates

When a material error is found in published research or a Morning Intelligence edition, it is corrected on the page with the date and a description of what changed.

Macro and Company Intelligence pages are regenerated from their sources as new data arrives, and each shows the date its data is as of.

How publication is controlled

Editorial research is reviewed and approved before it is released. Macro, Morning Intelligence and Company Intelligence are assembled by Blockhaven's own software from public sources and are published only when automated checks pass; anything that fails a check is withheld instead of being published with a caveat.
